SURFACE WATER FLOOD DEFENCE TRAINING

Be prepared to meet the challenges faced from flooding – with expert training from IWTS

The Local Government Authority states that no single body is responsible for managing flood risk. All organisations with responsibility to respond and be involved must train their people to work safely in and around surface water flood incidents. This can now be achieved under City & Guilds Accreditation by training with IWTS. Together with partners B.S.H.I.Ltd, we have the solutions and resources of fully accredited training for both senior and operative levels of surface water flood defence incident risk management. Our programmes are based on recommendations highlighted in the 2007 PITT Report, the cornerstone of national flood defence strategy, the key points stated are:

  • Reduce flood risk
  • Rescue & care in emergencies
  • Maintain Power & Water supplies and protect essential services
  • Advice to protect families & homes
  • Stay healthy & speed up recovery

All IWTS surface water flood defence training courses carry full City and Guilds Accreditation to meet corporate compliance to prepare and mitigate the demands placed on Local Authorities, Government Agencies and the Emergency Services across the UK.

IWTS offers tailored training solutions for clients – according to the duties required of them by law

Utilities companies and related organisations are obliged to deal with flood emergencies that can put life at risk; including at their own serviced installations. Local and Regional Authorities must clear highways safely, redirect traffic and maintain the safety of the public – from flood hazards and possible life threatening risks. Emergency Services, large organisations, utility companies and property owners, all have their own responsibilities. All are required to have schemes in place for the safety of individuals and prepare and implement Surface Water Management Plans (SWMP).

To deliver effective training – IWTS have designed and built a unique practical Flood Simulation Area.

IWTS has developed a unique flood defence simulation area to illustrate the practical aspects of our training. This unique area demonstrates how to reduce flooding hazards and to control risks to direct flood water away from affected areas to work safely. Our simulator is the first of its kind in the UK and brings added realism when training how to handle flood situations. Delegates receive theoretical hazard and risk control, in line with legal requirements and industry best practices. Benefiting from practical simulation of flooding and how best to keep people safe and reduce risk effectively.
