Oldham based specialist health and safety training company, Industrial Water Training Services Ltd (IWTS); unveils its unique confined space entry, high roped access and rescue training simulator.
IWTS unveiled their purpose built outdoor modular training simulator, at its training centre in Oldham in January. The ‘state of the art’ unit allows realistic working at heights, rescue and confined space entry training. The design of the simulator covers a wide range of situations for people working daily within industrial environments in construction, major water utilities and the gas and petro chemical sectors. Replicating effectively a wide range of health and safety scenarios where breathing apparatus, PPE and associated equipment must be worn and used correctly by trained professionals. Different working environments are simulated realistically including under total darkness in specially designed confined spaces; along with working at heights and rescue training.
Speaking about the new training simulator, Peter Jackson, Training Director at IWTS said:
“Being health and safety professionals, we saw a clear gap in the market for a training company to offer realistic and convincing working environments, using a purpose built training simulator. Especially in hazardous environments requiring specialist confined space entry training when breathing apparatus is required to be used with the right PPE and associated kit. Or fall arrest equipment too, which is used when working at heights and rescue training.” He went on to say…
“A training room can only deal with theory, it can’t provide life-like scenarios that are necessary to train effectively in health and safety. Which means that professionals needing this training are often left to practise their learning on the job, broadly speaking. We at IWTS on the other hand, put our training delegates through highly realistic controlled simulated situations. Enabling them to be better prepared, by experiencing these situations at first hand when training, to reduce risk and work more safely.”
The training simulator is just one example of the extensive investment from parent company Industrial Water Jetting Systems (IWJS) Ltd, at the Oldham centre. The simulator is ‘state of the art’ to demonstrate realistic working environments to minimise risk where safety is paramount. With the new centre also using the latest training equipment available, to deliver in its modern training rooms, expert health and safety tuition that’s second to none. IWTS offers a comprehensive range of health and safety training courses to professionals in industry which includes:
- Confined Space and Breathing Apparatus
- Working at Heights
- Water Utility Courses
- Health and Safety Courses
- Water Jetting Courses
- Management Courses
- C-Skills Site Safety Plus
- City & Guilds Assessment Awards

With the ability to train up to 168 delegates per week delivering highly specialised training courses. They also offer bespoke training to meet client needs – where they want, when they want – delivered on site if required, at weekends and evenings if needed (including varied shift patterns and in line with awarding body scheme permission).
Course delegates are trained to the highest standards possible to make them more aware of the hazards and risks associated within their daily working environments. Specifically, they will learn how these should be controlled to comply with legislation, guidance and national occupational standards. IWTS prides itself with qualified tutors who are highly competent and experienced in all aspects that they teach and assess in; supported and backed by the relevant awarding bodies and official licensing including City & Guilds, CITB Construction Skills (Cskills) and the Water Jetting Association.
This requires IWTS to be constantly aware of existing safety legislation and standards, or any impending changes to them. Positioning itself as a highly professional and fully licensed/accredited training provider, it thus ensures safety compliance at all times.
Based at Oldham in Lancashire, the team comprises of Peter Jackson, Training Director, Val Perrin, Administration Director and Tim Graham, Centre Manager. The IWTS team can be contacted at their new purpose built facilities at the Hollinwood Business Centre on Albert Street, Oldham, OL8 3QL
