IWTS team raises the bar in training standards…

Custom 1

Raising the bar in training standards, Oldham based health and safety training company Industrial Water Training Services (IWTS) Ltd has now achieved TAQA approved status… doing so in record time!

C&G_APPROVED_CENTRE_FC_RGBThe achievement was all the more significant as the training company just launched officially at the start of 2016. Reflecting that the right framework was already well in place to “hit the ground running” in providing officially approved course delivery of the highest standard in health and safety, along with other training. With members of the team achieving Level 3 in Assessing and Level 4 in Internal Quality Assurance to meet the required standards.

The purpose of the City and Guilds Training Assessment and Quality Assurance (TAQA) scheme is to train assessors and tutors, along with those carrying out quality assurance, to meet officially recognised national standards; to have the necessary competence to deliver these functions effectively. These qualifications are designed to equip a broad range of assessors, trainers, facilitators and teachers to support learners successfully. IWTS is now even more effectively positioned as a highly professional and fully licensed/accredited training provider, to ensure that safety compliance is met at all times when delivering training provision.

Speaking about reaching the nationally required training standard, Mike Todd who completed the 3 day assessment programme at IWTS on behalf of City & Guilds said:

“The team at IWTS now meets the most up to date TAQA qualifications, fully attaining the requirements set by National Occupational Standards (NOS) and City & Guilds.

IWTS took the decision to undergo stringent assessment, as many training companies still use staff who don’t hold the necessary up to date qualifications and therefore are working to the old A1/A2 Assessors Qualifications… that are no longer valid. These were replaced in 2010 by the much more rigorous TAQA standards that are currently required from all training centres approved by City & Guilds.

This ensures that IWTS customers, can be confident to receive the highest quality training assessment and internal quality assurance practise across all qualification routes, delivered by the centre.”

Achieving TAQA approved status as a training organization, reaffirms that IWTS has the ability to deliver training that is officially recognized and meets awarding bodies’ stringent requirements. This is of paramount importance, since only fully accredited and approved health and safety training is recognized nationally. Being mandatory by Law that only fully trained operatives must work in hazardous conditions and to do so safely when working in such circumstances in the UK – only after approved and accredited training from a competent provider.

Primarily, IWTS makes certain that its health and safety training delegates learn how to work effectively and safely in hazardous conditions to comply with legislation, guidance and national occupational standards. Priding itself with qualified tutors who are highly competent and experienced in all aspects that they teach and assess in; IWTS courses are supported and backed by the relevant national awarding bodies with official licensing from City & Guilds, CITB Construction Skills (Cskills) and the Water Jetting Association.

IWTS can train up to 168 delegates per week delivering highly specialist training courses to delegates from its modern purpose built training facilities in Oldham. With the added ability to simulate realistically, confined space and at height working environments in training scenarios, with its custom built training simulator. They can also offer bespoke training to meet client needs – where they want, when they want – delivered on site if required, at weekends and evenings if needed (including varied shift patterns and in line with awarding body scheme permission).

IWTS unveils unique ‘Health & Safety’ training environment simulator…

IWTS News Release 05-02-16

Oldham based specialist health and safety training company, Industrial Water Training Services Ltd (IWTS); unveils its unique confined space entry, high roped access and rescue training simulator.

IWTS unveiled their purpose built outdoor modular training simulator, at its training centre in Oldham in January. The ‘state of the art’ unit allows realistic working at heights, rescue and confined space entry training. The design of the simulator covers a wide range of situations for people working daily within industrial environments in construction, major water utilities and the gas and petro chemical sectors. Replicating effectively a wide range of health and safety scenarios where breathing apparatus, PPE and associated equipment must be worn and used correctly by trained professionals. Different working environments are simulated realistically including under total darkness in specially designed confined spaces; along with working at heights and rescue training.

Speaking about the new training simulator, Peter Jackson, Training Director at IWTS said:

“Being health and safety professionals, we saw a clear gap in the market for a training company to offer realistic and convincing working environments, using a purpose built training simulator. Especially in hazardous environments requiring specialist confined space entry training when breathing apparatus is required to be used with the right PPE and associated kit. Or fall arrest equipment too, which is used when working at heights and rescue training.” He went on to say…

“A training room can only deal with theory, it can’t provide life-like scenarios that are necessary to train effectively in health and safety. Which means that professionals needing this training are often left to practise their learning on the job, broadly speaking. We at IWTS on the other hand, put our training delegates through highly realistic controlled simulated situations. Enabling them to be better prepared, by experiencing these situations at first hand when training, to reduce risk and work more safely.”

The training simulator is just one example of the extensive investment from parent company Industrial Water Jetting Systems (IWJS) Ltd, at the Oldham centre. The simulator is ‘state of the art’ to demonstrate realistic working environments to minimise risk where safety is paramount. With the new centre also using the latest training equipment available, to deliver in its modern training rooms, expert health and safety tuition that’s second to none. IWTS offers a comprehensive range of health and safety training courses to professionals in industry which includes:

  • Confined Space and Breathing Apparatus
  • Working at Heights
  • Water Utility Courses
  • Health and Safety Courses
  • Water Jetting Courses
  • Management Courses
  • C-Skills Site Safety Plus
  • City & Guilds Assessment Awards
  • Custom Designed Courses

With the ability to train up to 168 delegates per week delivering highly specialised training courses. They also offer bespoke training to meet client needs – where they want, when they want – delivered on site if required, at weekends and evenings if needed (including varied shift patterns and in line with awarding body scheme permission).

Course delegates are trained to the highest standards possible to make them more aware of the hazards and risks associated within their daily working environments. Specifically, they will learn how these should be controlled to comply with legislation, guidance and national occupational standards. IWTS prides itself with qualified tutors who are highly competent and experienced in all aspects that they teach and assess in; supported and backed by the relevant awarding bodies and official licensing including City & Guilds, CITB Construction Skills (Cskills) and the Water Jetting Association.

This requires IWTS to be constantly aware of existing safety legislation and standards, or any impending changes to them. Positioning itself as a highly professional and fully licensed/accredited training provider, it thus ensures safety compliance at all times.
